American Heart Month

February is American heart month. However, we believe that awareness of heart health is important all 12 months of the year!

The first American Heart Month took place in February 1964. At that time, more than half of the deaths in America were the result of heart disease. Today, heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in our country. To put this in perspective, about 2,300 Americans die from heart disease each day. That is about 1 heart disease related death every 38 seconds. Heart disease doesn’t only affect older adults. Americans in their 20s and 30s are at risk as well! In fact, more than half of Americans have at least one risk factor for heart disease. Some risk factors include:

1. A poor diet, which can lead to high blood pressure, nutritional deficiencies, organ dysfunction, and obesity.
2. Smoking tobacco products.
3. Living a sedentary lifestyle.

Our primary mission here at Natural Health Practices in Port Orange, Florida is to help people improve their health naturally through the use of nutrition, chiropractic, massage, and detox. We believe in the body’s miraculous ability to heal and transform into a stronger, healthier, more vibrant being without the use of drugs or surgeries. While many people choose to wear red to bring about heart disease awareness during the month of February, we are taking the seriousness of heart disease a few steps further. By offering free workshops to our community and helping to support our patients with nutrition, we are able to take a proactive step in the fight against heart disease.

Since the heart is one of the most important organs, if not the most important one we have, we pay special attention to improving heart health. In fact, the health of your heart determines the overall health of your entire body. This is why we use a heart rate variability test to monitor the overall health of our patients. Our heart rate variability machine helps us determine the amount of stress on your body as a whole by analyzing the variability of time between each heart beat.

We also use Nutrition Response Testing to determine what nutrients your body may be lacking. Our patients who are in need of nutritional heart support will often test for the following heart support wholefood supplement products:

– Cod Liver Oil
– Tuna Omega 3 Oil
– Pro Omega
– Cardio-Plus
– Cardiotrophin

To find out if your heart could benefit from these nutritional products or any of the other professional wholefood products we carry, Contact Us to set up an appointment today. You can also learn more about our Nutrition Response Testing new patient exam here

We hope everyone has a happy and heart healthy February!
