Hey, guys, Dr. Shelly here. We’re in the middle of a pandemic right now. It’s a pandemic affecting our minds. Anxiety and stress has never been as contagious as it is right now. And the side effects of stress are just as harmful as a pathogen like a virus. Hear me out…

There’s some truth when people say mind over matter. It’s not just a catchphrase.

It’s a truth based on what we know to be fact that the brain, given the right set of directions, the right environment, the proper stimuli will always choose healing over disease.

The ability to fend off illness and disease depends on several factors, some of which are beyond our control.

But the way we react to stress and the general health of your immune system are things that we can influence.

If we’re not able to change our response to stressors, we’ll find ourselves in a constant physiological battle that will lead to serious health issues like hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and even death.

The brain and the immune system are in constant communication in this delicate balance that can be disrupted by any kind of physical or emotional stress.

Ongoing stress makes us more susceptible to illness because the brain sends defense signals to the endocrine system, which then releases an array of hormones that not only gets us ready for emergency situations like, fight or flight, but it also severely depresses our immunity at the same time.

I know… this is blowing your mind.

Stress is actually responsible for 90% of all illnesses and diseases, including cancer, heart disease, you name it.

The way that this works is that stress triggers a chemical reaction which floods the body with cortisol. and cortisol.

Although it may decrease inflammation, it also increases tumor development and decreases white blood cells, increasing your chance of infection and tissue damage.

Stress, the effects of stress, is cumulative and it eventually leads to more serious health issues like death.

So, it’s really important to be aware of the amount of stress that you have in your life.

So here’s my recommendations. Hopefully, these will help you deal with stress better.

The first thing you need to do is make time for relaxation activities, such as prayer.

The link between the mind and the body could be strengthened by specific relaxation exercises like prayer. And by making it a normal part of your life, prayer could become a buffer that guards against the breakdown of your organ systems.

The second thing you should do, and this follows with prayer, is focus on positive thinking.

Evidence shows that people who believe they are doing better or believe in a better outcome of a situation actually end up doing better than those who are in the same situation or same circumstance but aren’t positive about the outcome.

Research also suggests that anxiety or negative states affect your immune system.

The third recommendation I have for you is to find positive social support, like friends and family because people who have strong social support do better overall with their health. They’re actually more resistant to infection.

So just fight the urge to be alone and introvert when you’re stressed and instead pick up the phone and call somebody.

The relationship between stress and illness is not a simple one, but there is definitely a connection because the endocrine and immune systems are so interrelated that disruption to one due to physical or emotional stress typically causes damage to the other.

Fear has become a pandemic right now and I hope you can use these recommendations to de-stress and ultimately improve your health.

I’m Dr Shelly Seidenberg. Thank you so much for watching this and be sure to share this video with anyone you know who could benefit from it.
